quintin and st. brieuc

Take a day to visit St. Brieuc, one of the major ports of Brittany, also renowned for its scallops! On your way there stop in Quintin, one of Brittany’s “Petites Cités de Caractère.” This medieval town, like many in the Côtes d’Armor, prospered in earlier centuries because of the cultivation of flax in the region from which the linen for the sails of the great fishing boats of the world was woven. A museum dedicated to the craft of weaving is located here and in August Quintin celebrates its past with “La Fête des Tisserands” that includes weaving demonstrations, Bretons in traditional costume, music and dancing.

The city of St. Brieuc offers many attractions. During the summer nearby beaches and evening tours of St. Brieuc beckon. Marvelous shops can be found on nearly every street and the covered market, “Les Halles,” is well worth a stop.
